Last point: regarding the 1TB HDD - be very very very very VERY sure about it's power supply. There are files that are corrupted beyond recognition. Using DD, it is possible to map sectors to a new HDD, kill it when it finds unreadable sectors, and start again after the bad sectors.īUT, there are sectors/files of that drive that are simply not recoverable. I fear you have exceeded the reserved sectors for this operation.while also being a bit confused how this is even possible! (See last paragraph below)Īt this point, if you really, really, REALLY want to kill your vacation, or really, really REALLY need to recover as many files as possible from that drive, I would educate yourself about the "dd" utility, using cygwin or a linux live stick. That you are at this point with an HDD is a very bad sign!! HDDs for *decades* have used read-after-write verification, and remapped failed physical sectors to good logical sectors. "there are many bad sectors and a lot of free cloning software will not clone my disk because of that." I really need some help with this because I am absolutely clueless of where to go from here. I just woke up to the same exact screen, but everything is completely frozen, the elapsed time of the clone has stopped, and any time my cursor is on EaseUs I have a bracket cursor and cannot click on anything or even close the application. I let this run for about 5 hours and went to bed thinking it will be finished in the morning. After it ran for a bit it made me reboot to continue the cloning process and it booted to just a blue screen (not the error blue screen, but the deep blue as if you were installing Windows again) and the EaseUs Disk Copy, so it could clone sector by sector. ![]() It got to the point where I bought EaseUs Disk Copy so I can clone my disk sector by sector. However, because my HDD is 3-4 years old and has done more than enough of its service for me, there are many bad sectors and a lot of free cloning software will not clone my disk because of that. ![]() Completely starting over on a fresh install of Windows is kind of my last resort, so I’ve been trying to clone everything over. ![]() I just got a new 1TB SSD so I can replace my absolutely terrible 1TB HDD.
